New PMA Whitepaper on Browser Extensions and Toolbars
What’s old is new again, even in affiliate marketing. Over the last year, the Performance Marketing Association has engaged in a great deal of discussion over the resurgence of browser extensions and toolbars. (see video Affiliate Toolbars and Browser Extensions: Friend or Foe?)
After months of discussion and research, the PMA Compliance Council has released a new whitepaper entitled “DSP: A Quick Reference Guide.”
DSP (Downloadable Software Publisher) “refers to a publisher whose business model includes the installation of a piece of software on a user’s device. DSP’s include toolbars, bookmarklets, or browser plug-ins.”
The whitepaper includes:
- Concerns about Browser Extensions and Toolbars
- Advantages to Working with a DSP
- Evaluating Toolbar and Extension Publisher Applications
- Expectations to Set with the DSP
I’d like to personally thank the Compliance Council and its lead contributors for their work on a controversial issue:
- Rebecca Stearn, Council Chair, ShareASale
- Adam Dahlen, PartnerCentric
- Tom Wozniak, Optimzo
- Takahito Nakamura
I’m certain that the conversation about DSPs will continue to be a big one in our industry, and I encourage everyone to read the paper and consider the contributions of the experts who work with these issues every day. PMA members should feel free to continue the conversation in our Slack channels.
