Why the PMA Brunch Means So Much to Me

Why the PMA Brunch Means So Much to Me

Most of the time when I write here, it’s educational or informational advice on behalf of the PMA. This post is just from me. (I hope our BOD won’t mind!)

This week, I had the privilege of hosting the PMA Member Mixer at Affiliate Summit. Over the years, it’s gone by a few names including the PMA Member Brunch, the PMA Cocktail Party, and the PMA CEO & Founder Event. But no matter the name, one core element has never changed: all PMA members are invited, and all PMA members get in free.

Why is that so important to me?

In the early days of my career, I was a solopreneur running a tiny affiliate marketing business. I had big goals, but I wasn’t getting invited to exclusive happy hours or private dinners. Networking was nearly impossible unless you came to the table with huge numbers or “knew someone.”

The PMA was (is) different. We have always had a sliding cost scale that allows for even the smallest companies to be able to afford an annual membership. Our bylaws ensure that small companies are represented alongside the big companies. You don’t have to “know someone” to be invited to our events.

At our events, a 5-person startup networks directly with a 50-person company. If you ask a member for an introduction, they don’t ask about your traffic volume or how big your brand is. Members are happy to make the intros to other members.

Watching 90 people gather to genuinely support each other and elevate the entire industry is inspiring. Knowing that a single introduction in that room could boost (or even save) someone’s business is why we do this.

It takes ALL the companies in our industry for it to continue to grow–the big, the little, and the many in between.

People say that attending our events is like finding your affiliate family or going to a class reunion. You are welcome there. Whether you walk in looking for your affiliate marketing BFF or ask me at the door to help you find someone brand new to talk to, you will find conversations waiting to flow.

I will continue to be appreciative of everyone who makes our events possible because I believe in my heart that they are beneficial to us as individuals and to the industry as a whole. I hope to see YOU at the next one!
