A few weeks ago the affiliate industry welcomed marketers back, in person, with the return of Affiliate Summit East in New York City.  As would be expected with in person events at the moment, things were a bit scaled back from previous years. Though the energy was high and there were ample attendees participating to make meaningful connections and forge new relationships.

It was a particular highlight taking part in the happy hour co-hosted by the PMA and Martech Record. Thanks to the generosity of Awin’s sponsorship, we were able to bring together members from both organizations in an atmosphere that, after so much time apart, felt like a reunion of old friends. Affiliate marketers were eager for the chance to exchange stories and shared experiences as evident by the bustling top floor of St Pat’s Pub in Time Square and the overflow that spilled out into the adjoining rooftop space. The vibe was a mix of openness and optimism. Personally, I had the chance to reconnect with fellow affiliate marketers I’ve known for 10+ years but also met a good number of people who were making their first trip to affiliate summit.  

As the pandemic continues to rage on, it’s impossible to know for sure what business events may look like in our immediate future. But one thing is for sure, in an industry where relationships are at the very core to our success, don’t miss the opportunity to make new connections or tend to existing ones – be it in person or virtually.

Regardless of your experience level or depth of your business network, the chance to make personal connections is never time wasted. Nothing beats those moments of newfound inspiration that come from the idea exchange and shared learnings from your peers who are right alongside you finding new paths to success in our affiliate and partner marketing efforts.
