PMA Council Spotlight: Compliance
We recently launched a new series to help everyone get to know our councils. The councils are our PMA member groups that meet monthly to talk about industry issues and create resources such as whitepapers, blog posts, and webinars.
Today we are spotlighting the Compliance Council. Click here to read more about the council, including its goals and a list of all of its members.
Mission: Compliance has been an essential aspect of all forms of online marketing since its inception. The compliance council will stress the positive impact that direct relationships between advertisers and publishers in performance marketing has on the overall compliance of the channel.
This council is chaired by: Chair position is open!
Some of the things the council has discussed in the last year:
- Webinar: Performance Marketing Compliance Updates for 2025
- Webinar: “FTC Compliance and Performance Marketing”
- Practical Guide to FTC Made in USA Advertising Do’s and Don’ts
- Influencers and Retailer Sued for Alleged Disclosure Violations
- Is the New Google Toolbar Policy a Step Toward Affiliate Industry Standard?
- Affiliate Marketers and the Beneficial Ownership Information Reporting Requirements
- Navigating the Latest in AI and Marketing Regulations
- Compliance in subnetworks
- Toolbar and browser extension compliance
Some words from our council members:
- Bethanie Stephens, VP of Compliance, InfluenceLogic “I’ve served on the compliance council for two years, and it continues to be invaluable. Hearing diverse perspectives from members across affiliate marketing provides a well-rounded view of cases and industry challenges.”
- Takahito Nakamura, Head of eBay Partner Network, eBay, Inc. “Compliance is extremely important in affiliate industry, but not talked about often. This council provides the forum to exchange information, discuss issues happening or coming up, and provide guidance for the industry. Love the members who are passionate about the industry.”
- Noelle Spagna, Affiliate Program Manager, The Motley Fool “It’s a great way to connect and discuss various compliance/regulatory issues within not only the affiliate space, but ecommerce and marketing as a whole, which affects so many of our jobs. Being able to pick other members brains, provide your perspective, or receive additional insight from the seasoned experts in this council has been wonderful.”
- Jeannine Crooks, Founder, Sled Dog Consulting.com “I love being on the Compliance Council because I think we provide a vital watchdog service to our industry. Rules can change quickly with the FTC, especially when they pursue a site for non-compliance. As a Council, we help PMA members implement the right processes to keep their sites safe. I love how astute and well-read our Council members are!”
My personal favorite thing about this council: As an attorney, I have a keen interest in compliance issues in affiliate marketing. Everyone on this council comes from a different place in the industry– email, fraud compliance, affiliate management, influencer, etc. Because of that, the council tackles a wide variety of issues that all have the same thing in common: finding ways to keep our industry on the right side of not only the law but also ethics and standards.
